    Ephraim W. Salls Sr.

    October 11, 2005

    GREENSBORO: Ephraim Walter Salls Sr., 81, a longtime resident of Greensboro, died Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2005, at the Copley Hospital in Morrisville.

    He was born Nov. 24, 1923, in Campton, N.H., the son of Edward and Clara (Philbrook) Salls.

    He attended Greensboro public schools.

    On July 20, 1955, he married Pauline Pearl Fleming.

    As a young man, he was a farmhand and worked in the woods. He later was a self-employed truck driver, carrying pulp to local sawmills. For many years he was the caretaker for 80 camps in the Greensboro area.

    He was known to Greensboro residents as the town mayor. He enjoyed dancing and auto racing.

    He was a past member of the Greensboro Fire Department.

    Survivors include his son, Ephraim W. (Buddy) Salls Jr. of Brookfield; a daughter, Cindy Bishop of Wolcott; five grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

    He was predeceased by three bothers, Burton Tracy, Howard Salls and Erwin Salls Sr.; and three sisters Gertrude Dunbar, Evelyn Withers and Velma Webster.

    At Mr. Salls' request there will be no visiting hours.

    A graveside service will be held Saturday, Oct. 15, at 2 p.m. in the Greensboro Village Cemetery with the Rev. Alden Launer officiating.

    In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the family of Ephraim Salls Sr., c/o Ephraim Salls Jr., 25 Wheatly Farm Road, Brookfield, VT 05041 or to Cindy Bishop, 74 School St., Wolcott, VT 05680.
