      GREENSBORO BEND, VT - Evelyn Melinda Withers, 79, of Greensboro Bend died Saturday at Copley Hospital in Morrisville.

      She was born on June 18, 1925 in Campton, N.H. to the late Edward and Clara (Philbrook) Salls.

      She attended Greensboro public schools. On April 25, 1947, she married Kenneth Clayton Withers in Hardwick. They lived most of their married lives in Greensboro and Greensboro Bend.

      She was employed at the Hardwick Knitwear.

      She enjoyed taking rides along country roads, dancing and sewing, and was affiliated with the Greensboro United Church of Christ.

      Survivors include two daughters, Sandra Withers of East Burke and Tami Lamberton of Barre, and a brother, Ephraim Salls of Greensboro, two grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

      She was predeceased by her husband Kenneth in 2000, three brothers, Burton Tracy, Erwin H. Salls Sr. and Howard Salls; and two sisters, Velma Webster and Gertrude Dunbar.

      Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Greensboro Village Cemetery with Rev. Anthony Acheson of the Greensboro United Church of Christ officiating. There will be no visiting hours.

      In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Harwick Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 837, Hardwick, VT 05843. Northern Vermont Funeral Service in Hardwick is handling the arrangements.
