      Laconia-----Robert E. Aldrich, 83, of 406 Court Street and formerly of South Down Shores, died at the St. Francis Home on Tuesday, January 6, 2004.

      Mr. Aldrich was born May 28, 1920 in Manchester, NH, the son of Lewis and Delphine (Gagne) Aldrich. He had been a long time resident of the Lakes Region.

      Mr. Aldrich was a photographer. He owned his own photo shop on Elm Street and later relocated to the Landau Store in Laconia. Later he owned a photo and record shop on Main Street, Laconia. In 1964, he became a real estate agent and owned and operated Aldrich Real Estate until his retirement in 1997.

      Mr. Aldrich was a pilot and was involved with the Winnipesaukee Ice Out for many years. He was a former member of the Laconia Kiwanis Club, The Laconia Rotary Club and was awarded the Paul Harris Fellow. He was a member of the Laconia Elks Lodge #876 for over fifty years and was a member of the Mount Lebanon Lodge No. 32 F. & A.M. for over fifty years. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and was a longtime member of the Winnipesaukee Shrine Club and was treasurer and secretary for twenty-six years. He was also a member of the Bektash Shriners and was a member of the Valley of Nashua.

      Mr. Aldrich was a former director and former president of the Bayside Cemetery Association for many years and was a former president of the L. I. D. C.

      Mr. Aldrich was a member of the St. James Episcopal Church and was the church's former organist at the 8:00AM Service.

      Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Rachel G. (Roberts) Aldrich of Laconia; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert James and Sandra (Michaud) Aldrich of Gilford; a daughter and son-in-law, Roberta Ann and Henry Joe Croteau of Loudon, NH; five grandchildren, Susan Croteau Dore, Sandra Croteau Bell, Michael Robert Aldrich, Michelle Aldrich Rossetto and Marc James Aldrich; seven great grandchildren, Brittany, Brandon, and Benjamin Bell, Joshua and Kali Dore, Madeline and Quinn Aldrich; a sister, Eva Betty Fortin of Virginia; eleven nephews and seven nieces. He was predeceased by four brothers, Lewis Aldrich, Leon Aldrich, Malcolm Aldrich and Maurice Aldrich; by three sisters, Doris Abbott, Marion Hopkins and Beatrice Salls and by two grandchildren, Deborah Lee Wilkens and William B. Wilkens, III.

      There will be no calling hours.

      A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2004 at 11:00AM at St. James Episcopal Church, 876 North Main Street, Laconia, NH. Rev. Jonathan MacKenzie, Rector of the Church, will officiate.

      Burial will be at a later date in the family lot in Bayside Cemetery, Laconia, NH

      In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. James Episcopal Church, 876 North Main Street, Laconia, NH 03246 or St. Francis Home Activities Fund, 406 Court Street, Laconia, NH 03246.
